Hello! I thought I would share a few of my favourite children's picture books at the minute, seen as it was world book day this week.
This Counting book with pop outs is illustrated by Aino-Maija Metsola and it is full of quirky shapes and vibrant colour palettes. Aino-Maija is a Helsinki based illustrator and is best known for designing prints for Marimekko. Her work combines various drawing techniques like ink to watercolours, gouache and markers.
Listen! Listen! Is illustrated by Paul Rand and his wife, Ann. They wrote this book for their daughter Catherine to explain how sound and colour intertwines. Paul uses distinctive paper cut illustrations inside the book with bold shapes and pops of colour alongside Ann's rhythmic text that encourages children to listen to the noises they hear everyday and repeat them, like the 'blop' of a raindrop.
One thousand things is illustrated by Anna Kovecses, a self taught graphic designer based in Cyprus. Another wonderful book full of inspiring shapes and colour palettes. I love how she overlaps shapes and lowers the opacity so you can see the overlapped sections, and how the colours change from this.
Do you have any picture book illustrators that you love at the minute?
Love these illustrations, so cute!
